Week 3

Another week for another blog update!

Greetings everyone!
This week we learn about Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)
What is CMC you might ask? It is any form of communication or interaction between two or more people via separate computers or devices. A process throughthat people can interact, exchange, perceive information, culture, thought, ideas, history, knowledge, mores and social issues with each other via computer medium networking by tools E-mails, Blogs, Wikis, Chat rooms, audio and video conferencing. For example, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and etc. It started back in the late 1980s and 1990s, where Communicative CALL was introduced. It has two types of CMC, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous is a real time communication while asynchronous is a delay communication. But in late 2000s, CMC was implemented for distance learning to allowed teachers and learners to interact without being in the same location. This way, it offers learners easy access and opportunity to communicate with others learners as well as native speakers. Furthermore, the context and material of communication is authentic rather than simulated.

Article Review
Regarding the assessment on writing a review of the article provided by my lecturer, I choose the CMC for Language Acquisition and Intercultural Learning article. The research on CMC-aided language acquisition shows a great potential in language and intercultural learning. From my understanding, the aim of CMC in intercultural learning helps to improve language teaching and learning. There is an interconnectedness between language acquisition and intercultural learning. The article also stated that implementing CMC in designing authentic experiences is not a trivial exercise, the software and learning outcomes need to be consider carefully. To achieve the most appropriate delivery technology instructors, perfect understanding of intended discourse goal is required.
